Personally speaking, besides Eric B & Rakim's My Melody, this has got to be one of the most important/influential/illest hip-hop tracks of all time. The Bomb Squad (I shouldn't have to even tell you who they are) definitely had their shit on point when they dropped this back in 1989. Right off the bat, those horns (from T.S. Monk's Bon Bon Vie) pull you into this sound collage of hi-hats, drums, grunts, stabs, and then:

Chuck's voice dropped into the mix and so began a neo-political diatribe the likes of which I had never heard before. It was a life-changing experience along the same lines of hearing Mega Mixx II by the 2 Live Crew a few months earlier. So before I start rambling on about something else (thank you ADD), this is a collection of the tracks that were sampled to create Public Enemy's Welcome To The Terrordome. That Instant Funk track is mad classic and you can also hear it used on De La Soul's A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturdays' which is mad classic unto itself. Check it out and school yourself.
