I finally gave up my spyware/virus battle and simply formatted and reinstalled my OS (it needed to be done anyway) and needless to say, things are running fine & dandy. In addition, I cut back on the amount of VST plugins (both effect and synth) on my system seeing as how many of them sat unused and lifeless on my hard drive.
