Whereas the quality may not be the best (shitty mics, an unbalanced mix at a few points, and just the normal stuff that goes on at an old-school gorilla punk show), it's truly a classic performance by the Beastie Boys (sans Adam Horovitz). At this point of their incarnation (The Polywog Stew era for those keeping track), the Beasties consisted of Mike D on vocals, MCA on the bass, John Berry on the guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. The Beasties weren't really known out of the NYC area, but it didn't take long for them to develop a loyal following that helped solidify their place in the New York hardcore scene circa 1981. At this particular gig at the legendary (and sadly defunct) CBGB's, they shared the stage with Reagan Youth as well as The Young & The Useless (Horovitz's band at the time) and low-and-behold, somebody had the sense to record it for future generations to enjoy. It's loud, obnoxious, and a true testament of the NYC punk scene of the early eighties. All tracks tagged & encoded within iTunes @ 160kbps.
